Supertram Link again
Posted 27 April, 2012

Sir,
I wonder if you would allow me to belatedly reply (I have been abroad for the last 6 weeks) to the anonymous "life-long Stocksbridge Resident" who wanted to know (Look Local 21 June) how Stagecoach could have diverted their buses round the accident site when trams were suspended between Middlewood and Hillsborough following the accident on May 5.
I would have sent them through the Wadsley Park Estate which is more than suitable for buses and is served by the 268 and then down Worrall Road - a route used by the 57 service.
Langsett Avenue might have been a bit more direct but that I accept would not have been a suitable alternative route given the parking and extra traffic.
I can not help wondering why this letter is anonymous and assume the writer is employed by a bus company who would not support his view.
I am aware of the impact that this would have had on the timetable (assuming no extra buses could have been drafted in). However from a customer service point of view I am sure most users would have preferred the option of the bus connecting with the tram.
One day Stagecoach might recognise that one of the most important elements of customer service is how they respond when things go wrong (as they will).
Kind regards,
Alistair Nicoll.
