Stocksbridge I 137-6 beat Calver 134-6 by 4 wickets
Stocksbridge I entertained bottom of the table Calver, and benefitted from the away sides decision to bat first on a difficult track. Although early on bowlers run-ups were causing the opening bowlers Jim Tomlinson and Andy Hibbert problems, it was always going to be difficult to score runs. Runs and wickets alike were slow in coming and although Stocksbridge were a little lacklustre compared to the usual standard set in the field, the visitors were kept down to a score of 134-6 from their 46 overs, which always looked below par. Star turn for the hosts with the ball was 13 year old Yorkshire triallist Chris Pickford, who showed few nerves on his first team debut, and bowled a great line and length to finish with figures of 2-15 from his 5 overs. In reply Stocksbridge openers James Ward (23) and Eric Price (28) got off to a flyer against somw wayward bowling. Although Stocksbridge lost more wickets than they would have liked, the target was always within reach and the runs were knocked off with almost 10 overs to spare. Matt Price starred with 36 in the middle order. The final runs came with father and son Jon and Chris Pickford at the crease together, which made it a very proud day for Jon as wellas all involved with Stocksbridge Cricket Club. The result leaves the 1st team 15 points clear of University Staff and 36 clear of recent leaders Parkhead. Next week sees a break for the team, they will be back in action away at Hundall on 4th August
