Dump-it closure
Posted 22 June, 2012

Dear Sir /Madam,
I am at a loss to know the intelligence of the thinking behind the closure of the dump-it site at High Green.
Having taken some items to dump at this site on Saturday June 9, myself plus at least 14 other car drivers found it closed .Today, June 17, it was also closed which begs the question just when is this site open?
The High Green site was always busy since not only was it used by residents of Shiregreen, Ecclesfield, Chapeltown, High Green, Grenoside and Harley but was also used by people from Thorpe Hesley, Hoyland Common plus Wentworth and the surrounding villages since staff at this site were always helpful.
Surely anyone with the least intelligence would not close any site on its busiest days Saturday and Sunday. The location given of alternate sites, Gleadless and Shirecliffe, are at least a 20 to 30 minute journey from the Chapeltown area.
Whilst many people will use alternative sources to recycle plastics, paper and glass it will also result in an increase in fly tipping since some people will just dump their rubbish on the land near the dump-it site or go down and dump it on the wooded area of Thorncliffe Park.
Having worked for a company on the Thorncliffe site I can assure you that many hours were spent, by myself and my colleauges, ringing Sheffield Council to collect old beds, sofas etc. the last time restricted opening at the High Green site was put in place.
Yours truly,
D.E. Stow.
