Report by Snowdon Sports AT the sharp end for the whole 86 miles, Sam Boast (Hope Factory Racing) proved strongest in a three-man sprint to win Rutland CC’s Langsett Cycles-Stannington Road race in South Yorkshire. Boast, 19, and Universities champion Tom Stewart (RST Racing) broke away on the first of 16 laps of the Stannington circuit and, representing the strongest two teams in the field, drew no response from the bunch to stay out in front with an advantage which never rose beyond a minute until seasoned campaigner Martin Ford (In-Gear Quickvit Trainsharp RT) jumped out of the pack and bridged the gap on his own with three laps to go. Stewart wrapped up the King of the Mountains title ahead of Boast and Matthew Williams Team Hope Factory Racing), but it was Boast, from Colne, in Lancashire, who held the aces in the sprint for the line to come home four lengths clear of Stewart and Ford. A sizeable crowd enjoyed a sunny day from a vantage point allowing them to look down on the whole of the action in the valley below and, with a strong team of sponsors, promoters Rutland CC – reviving a race which originated in the 1950s but disappeared in the 70s – hope to re-establish the event on the calendar and expand it for future years.
