Fly tipping scourge
Posted 25 May, 2012

Dear Editor,
May I applaud the actions of the Ewden Valley clean up volunteers and of both Bradfield Parish Council and Stocksbridge Town council for producing, promoting and circulating through Look Local a leaflet on fly-tipping.
The problem is endemic in the northern area and I hope that Ecclesfield Parish Council together with the Northern Community Assembly will endorse and help promote this initiative.
In recent weeks I have had to arrange the removal of dumped mattresses, large quantities of tyres and miscellaneous black sacks of domestic and business rubbish from many locations in the north.
Some of these have been only a short driving distance from our recycling sites. In my view it is every decent person’s responsibility to try and stop these acts that blight not only the remote and beautiful countryside sites but hotspots that are often only a short walking distance from village or town centres.
I hope the content of the leaflet will be widely promoted and that anyone witnessing fly tipping activities will report them via the 101 telephone number.
Yours sincerely,
Councillor Trevor Bagshaw
Councillor for West Ecclesfield
