Stocksbridge Ladies down to last 16

THE ladies team of Stocksbridge and District Golf Club have progressed through to the final 16 teams left in the Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic 2010, which had almost 2,000 entries.
The Stocksbridge team consists of lady captain, Ann Crawshaw, club secretary, Ann Methley, Ann O'Donnell, Eunice Turner, Hilja O'Sullivan and current Sheffield Ladies Champion, Liana O'Sullivan.
The competition is a knockout played on a home or away basis depending on the draw, with five players in each team.
Stocksbridge Golf Club got off to an easy start in the competition with a bye in the first round and the second round game being given by Abbeydale Golf Club who were unable to field a team.
The third round saw them meet local club Tankersley Golf Club in a home draw where Stocksbridge won 4.5-0.5.

Then in the fourth round, Stocksbridge were drawn away to play against Beauchief G olf Club and beat them 4-1.

In the fifth round, Stocksbridge knocked Lingdale Golf Club of Leicestershire out of the competition with a 4-1 win.

The sixth round was also played at home and after all five matches were finished the score was tied on 2.5-2.5 which meant a sudden death play-off had to take place which Liana O'Sullivan of Stocksbridge won on the second hole.

Then in the seventh round, the Stocksbridge Ladies ventured to Dunham Forest Golf Club of Cheshire and were victorious again with a 3-2 win.
