Stocksbridge PS announced on Friday, the departure of their ‘star player’ Jamie Vardy.
The popular forward has moved to Halifax Town FC, for an undisclosed fee.
Over the past two years all at Stocksbridge Park Steels FC had expected Jamie to move to a league club and twelve months ago a very small offer from Rotherham United was turned down as they were only prepared to give him a three months contract.
Since then numerous scouts have visited Bracken Moor but no offers were received. Some weeks ago Jamie explained how his personal circumstances had now changed and it was agreed to help him find another club. As FC Halifax Town had expressed interest previously Jamie and the club met their officials and a deal satisfying all three parties was quickly agreed.
Jamie who was one of the main guests at the Junior presentation night on 26 and 27th May thanked all at Stocksbridge – the Committee and Supporters for all the help and support they had given him since he joined the club as a 16 year old seven years ago – “I started in the 18’s and progressed through the reserves and made my Unibond debut 3 years ago under Gary Marrow. If my personal circumstances had not recently changed quite dramatically then I would still be at Stocksbridge – however now that I have moved on I can assure all Halifax supporters that I will give 100% in every game and hope that we soon gain promotion to the Conference North”.
Manager Gary Marrow ended by saying that Jamie had been a pleasure to work with and goes with all our best wishes. Jamie’s move to FC Halifax Town gives him a platform to hopefully progress through the Leagues whether its with them or ultimately with a League Club – only time will tell.
