Stocksbridge 4 Whitby 0
Two goals in each half gave Stocksbridge a well-deserved win in the UniBond League Cup. Steels went into half time two up through goals from Jamie Vardy and Alex Callery.
Vardy scored at the second attempt after a shot rebounded from the crossbar and he headed home from close range.
The second goal came from winger Alex Callery who converted an excellent Mark Ward cross. It all went wrong for visitors Whitby town after the break when a defender handled the ball on the line after centre half Brett Lovell got in an excellent header from a corner and Whitby were reduced to 10 men and Mark Ward converted the penalty.
Moments later a rush of blood to the head from Gandea saw the visitors down to nine men after he hacked down Steels captain Darren Schofield.
It was fairly easy going for the home side from then on and Ring completed the scoring to make this a fairly comprehensive victory and send Stocksbridge into the final eight.
They will face Retford away in the next round on Tuesday February 9. Kick off is at 7.45pm.
On Saturday February 6, Hucknall Town are the visitors to Look Local Stadium with a 3pm kick off.
