Local cancer charity calls for runners to take on marathon challenge
Posted 24 November, 2009
MARIE Curie Cancer Care is appealing to all north Sheffielders who fancy a 2010 fitness challenge whilst raising money for a good cause.
The Paris Marathon, taking place on 11 April 2010, is the perfect event for those who perhaps missed out on getting a place in the 2010 Virgin London Marathon, or for those looking for their next marathon challenge.
The race has officially sold out but the local Marie Curie Cancer Care fundraising office is delighted to announce that it still has a few limited charity places available on this premier event. Supporters should sign up quickly if they are considering it!
The Paris Marathon is one of the oldest big city marathons in the world, pre-dating London by four years, with a staggering 35,000 participants each year. Starting on the Champs Elysees, runners will travel down the wide Boulevard to Place du Concorde, past the Louvre and out to the east of the city. They’ll then join the banks of the River Seine and return past Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower on the way to the finish at the Arc de Triomphe on Avenue Foch.
Everything from flights and accommodation, to fundraising support and training tips, is organised by the charity. As if that’s not enough, Marie Curie has teamed up with Nike to provide all Daffodil Team runners with an exclusive free Nike Dri FIT technical performance running vest, designed to keep you comfortable and cool on the course.
Liz Howlett, local Marie Curie Cancer Care fundraiser, said: “This is a great opportunity to put those get-fit resolutions into practice for 2010 and join the experience of a lifetime in the iconic city that is Paris. All money raised will allow more Marie Curie Nurses to provide free care in the region for terminally ill people – so if you’re going to run, run for us!”
